One group excursion per semester is included in the cost of the program.  Additionally, a wide range of organized and independent co-curricular opportunities are available.

The School in China arranges and pays for one co-curricular activity for each student per semester. These activities range from a one-on-one lesson, attendance in a local club, volunteer work, or even a solo activity. The Resident Director in Hangzhou will help get each student started in this co-curricular activity based on their interest and background. Each student must then report weekly to the RD on the activity. Teacher fees and club dues will be paid by the School in China, but each student is responsible for transportation and equipment (which in most cases turns out to be quite inexpensive). Here are some ideas for co-curricular activities:

- Join a ping pong class at our host university.
- Learn to play the two-stringed Chinese violin (erhu), the wooden flute (dizi), or some other Chinese instrument.
- Street dance - practice and perform with a local troupe.
- Join a modern dance class.
- Volunteer at a school for the deaf, a resting home or a blood bank.
- Study calligraphy, ink painting, martial arts, taiji, Go (weiqi), or Traditional Chinese massage or acupuncture.
- Be a doorman at a local hotel for a few hours a week.
- If you are a student athlete, join the host university's team.
- Write freelance for a local magazine.

Please vist our photo album to see the School in China in action. You'll find photos of the extracurricular activities such as erhu lessons, taijiquan and cooking classes plus photos from trips around the Zhejiang province and the rest of China.
