Semester or year-long undergraduate students have the opportunity to live in either a homestay or a foyer. A valuable experience of your stay in France can be that of living with a family. This "total immersion" offers the student valuable insight into French culture, providing a richer vision of tradition, customs, and daily life. Our homestays offer various options for all types of students ranging from independence to real family life. For students looking for a more communal lifestyle, we offer foyers or student residence halls for both male (in Paris only) and female students.
Foyerspermit students to meet and become friends with others near their age from France and around in the world. Foyers are a more economical choice. All fees are paid directly by the student in France to the landlord or proprietaire. Foyers are more readily available in Poitiers while Paris has a larger number of home stays.
"The reason I chose to live in a dormitory are basically the same reasons I chose the Middlebury program in the first place: increased independence and the freedom to experience the city for myself." A student explains her choice to live in a foyer de jeunes filles (dormitory) rather than with a host family, commenting on the high level of independence and the chance to get to know French students her own age.
