The School's headquarters are located in Paris, at Centre Madeleine, in the neighborhood commonly referred to as La Madeleine. Students in Paris usually take courses at the Middlebury Center and at the University of Paris.

School in France students may also choose to study at the University of Bordeaux (since 2007), or at the University of Poitiers (since 2002). The International Student Offices in those cities serve as the daily point of contact for students, but the School's director and the site coordinator visit students very regularly in Bordeaux and Poitiers.

We strongly urge all students to enroll in the program for the full academic year: compared to a shorter stay, the linguistic, academic, and personal benefits of a ten-month stay are incalculable.

"My professors understand that I'm used to a different way of working and have really helped me learn how to work in the French system." As classes are held in the Centre Madeleine and the neighborhood outside bustles with activity, students discuss their academic experiences in Paris.

Credit

Middlebury College considers a semester or an academic year abroad as equivalent to a semester or an academic year in the United States. Undergraduates from other institutions should consult their home institution about credit transfer before enrolling. Middlebury College students receive 4 units of credit for one semester abroad, 5 units for one semester and one winter term, and 9 units for a full year. Typically, students who transfer credit to their home institutions receive 15-16 semester hours or 20-25 quarter hours per semester for four to five courses.

Internships

Through an internship in a host organization, students will gain more in-depth experience and exposure to the host culture as well as the local work environment. This experience will also provide students with new knowledge and skills which can lead to greater career, graduate school, and other opportunities in the future. Students should notify the Office of Off-Campus Studies of their intention to apply for an internship by May 15 (fall) or Oct 15 (spring).

Middlebury Language Pledge

To take full advantage of their stay abroad, students are expected to maintain the spirit of the Middlebury College Language Pledge and to speak only French while in France. We expect that no English will be used, except for emergency consultations with the Director.
