The School in Italy organizes two one-day excursions each semester, generally to small towns of artistic interest which are difficult to reach with regular means of transportation. In addition, an overnight excursion is normally offered each semester. Visits to churches, museums, and gardens in Florence are regularly scheduled for Art History and History courses. Students are encouraged to get involved in independent co-curricular activities. The School in Italy maintains an updated listing of such activities pursued by former students, and the staff is available to direct students to these resources.

Internships
Through an internship in a host organization, students will gain more in-depth experience and exposure to the host culture as well as the local work environment. This experience will also provide students with new knowledge and skills which can lead to greater career, graduate school, and other opportunities in the future.
