The mission of the GMC is to make the Vermont Mountains play a larger part in the life of the people by protecting and maintaining the Long Trail System and fostering, through education, the stewardship of Vermont's hiking trails and mountains.
The GMC has extensive volunteer opportunities. Our needs include seasonal or ongoing work, trail-based or office work, and well as assistance with annual events. Examples include:
- Serving as summit and shelter caretakers
- Adopting a trail or shelter
- Serving on the Long Trail Patrol
- Helping with art and photography on GMC printed materials.
- Web site assistance
- Contributing to the GMC newsletter
- Helping with our annual Snowshoe Festival
