Hospice cares for terminally ill people and for people who are grieving. Hospice volunteers are specially trained to provide physical, emotional and spiritual care for those we serve. (from our Mission Statement) "Hospice Volunteer Services is a not-for-profit agency committee to offering care and support to our community members and their families who are facing the end of life or grieving the loss of a loved one. Our mission also includes educating the community on the issues of death and dying."
There are several ways to become involved:
• Patient care volunteers must complete a 10 week, 30 hour hospice volunteer training class.
• Wellspring hospice singers, a singing group that sings at patient bedsides; twice monthly rehearsals + bedside sings
• Sweet Charity, a unique resale shop in Vergennes, benefits Hospice programs
• Office volunteers who help with mailings, data entry and other office tasks on an as needed basis
• Our largest fund raiser is a large arts auction in May, held at the Basin Harbor Club outside Vergennes; volunteers do many different tasks from January through May. Anyone interested in exploring ways to be of service to hospice patients and families should phone or email us to set up an appointment.
