Project Independence is an elderly adult day care center that provides a home away from home to elders in need of care or supervision, while providing a comfortable, safe and enjoyable day-time experience. Participants come to enjoy activities, receive nursing supervision and care. Participants may have post-stroke disabilities, dementia, chronic illness, and frailty due to advanced age or memory loss.
Volunteers can offer musical entertainment, games, dance, sports games, art experiences, discussion groups, one-on-one visits, interviewing, emotional support and listening. Students will need good communication skills to work with elders and their families, and a gentle manner.
