The organization: Service Civil International (SCI) is “a peace organization that co-ordinates international voluntary projects for people of all ages, cultures, religious and economic backgrounds.” Over a 1000 camps are organized worldwide every year with the aim of bringing together open-minded international volunteers to help the local community while learning about a relevant problem of the region.

The work: “For three weeks this summer I worked at the Magic Market in Santa Susanna, Spain. This year the festival focused on water issues. Our group of international volunteers helped with many aspects of the organization of the festival, including advertising, distributing materials of environmental interest, supporting child activities and most importantly setting up and conducting an exhibition with the theme of water sustainability. The exhibition aimed to raise awareness about the water problem not through the traditional methods of education, but through different forms of arts for example photography, short films and 'post art.' As a part of the 'post art' exhibition artists from all over the world sent hand-made postcards titled H2O-S.O.S. to Santa Susanna.”

Funding: Agnes' experience was partially funded through an ACE Mini-Grant.
