Federal Shepherd Consortium Grant Approved
President Bush signed into law the Higher Education Act (HEA) on August 15, 2008. The HEA includes an 11-institution federal consortium grant, of which Middlebury College is a member, to create opportunities to pursue the interdisciplinary study of poverty and human capability, including the development of up to 20 summer internships to engage students educated about issues of poverty to help not-for-profits fight against the challenges of poverty in local communities. The new campus-based programs will begin either in the fall of 2009 or 2010, depending upon the successful movement through the Allocations and Appropriations Committees.
