Volunteers at last year's Trick-or-Treat for Canned Goods

Middlebury College students are dusting off their jack-o-lantern carving skills and searching for the perfect costume this Halloween season, and a large group of students are doing it all for a good cause! Two different Halloween-themed volunteer projects are being organized through Volunteer Services Organization (VSO) this year.

The second annual Pumpkin Carving Project began on Saturday, October 24th with a group of VSO members traveling to Greenhaven Gardens in New Haven, VT to purchase 75 pumpkins. These pumpkins along with a pumpkin carving kit were then brought to six of the Social Houses on campus for members to carve. The newly carved pumpkins will be collected on Friday and donated to Helen Porter Nursing Home for their annual jack-o-lantern display for their residents!

Another annual VSO event, Trick-or-Treating for Canned Goods, will take place on Halloween. Student volunteers will dress up to go out with the trick-or-treaters and collect canned goods, all of which will be donated to Helping Overcome Poverty’s Effects (HOPE).

If you are interested in getting involved in either of these opportunities, please contact Mikaela Lefrak (mlefrak@middlebury.edu) or Carrie Pratt (cpratt@middlebury.edu).

Happy Halloween!
