Mission Statement of the Chemistry & Biochemistry Department
At Middlebury College, we teach the chemical sciences with a distinct emphasis placed on active learning. The focus of classroom and laboratory experiences is on developing sophisticated scientific reasoning and creative problem solving skills. Our degree programs in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology & Biochemistry, and Environmental Chemistry provide majors with training in the use of modern research instrumentation, opportunities to undertake meaningful undergraduate research, and the depth of knowledge necessary to become active contributors to the scientific community. Comprehensive studies in the chemical sciences successfully prepare graduates for a variety of careers, including those in science, medicine, and teaching.
