| On January 11, 2008, Department Chair Roger Sandwick and his students, Caitlin King 09, Kevin O'Rourke 09, Tad Davenport 08, Matt Griswold 08 and Annie Onishi 09, invited the Addison County community to an amazing "Mr. Wizard Chemistry Show!", an exciting performance of wild chemical experiments! |
| Matt and his assistant watched as a clear liquid turned blue! |
| First grader Grace lit a wipe on fire! |
| And Kevin blew up an egg! |
| Sarah Byers lit a balloon of hydrogen gas with a match! |
| Kaboom! |
| And Kevin blew up bubbles of hydrogen gas! |
| Everyone in the packed audience was full of enthusiasm to learn about chemistry! |
| As exciting as the explosions were, the children were taught the importance of safety, and every participant wore a wildly colored tie-dyed lab coat and a really cool pair of safety glasses! |
| Annie asked the audience what they thought would happen when she put a balloon in liquid nitrogen? |
| And this is what they thought.... |
| Kevin, Annie and Tad made ice cream using liquid nitrogen! |
| And everyone lined up to try some! |
| Caitlin and her lab assistants made Elephant Toothpaste! |
| Watch closely! |
| We even had an experiment about fluorescence, but unfortunately we couldn't capture on film the special effects of bright blue liquid pouring down the tube in the dark! |
Thank you Roger and Chemistry & Biochemistry students! |
Stay tuned! A repeat performance for all the folks who couldn't get into this show...
"The Leap Year Night of Magic!" on Friday, February 29, 2008 at 6:30PM in McCardell Bicentennial Hall Room 216. |
