My courses have three foci: theories of religion, the history of Jewish thought, especially the modern period, and classical Hebrew, a command of which is the key to Jewish culture.
I have devoted my research to German-Jewish culture and its legacy, to the thought and influence of Hermann Cohen, and recently to American Jewish history.
