Welcome to the Dance Program! You have many opportunities to dance at Middlebury. Through the Dance Program, in the Department of Theatre and Dance, you can major, joint major, minor, or simply take courses in dance. Auditors are welcome on a space-available basis in all technique sections of our core courses and many more extra-curricular classes are offered as well. We emphasize contemporary approaches to dance/movement techniques, composition, performance, and general dance studies.
Whatever your background, if you have an interest in dance you can find an avenue for study at Middlebury College. The Dance Program offers classes in modern and post-modern movement techniques and composition, and in traditional forms, such as jazz, African styles, ballet and yoga as teachers are available.

Experiential Anatomy and Dance History are part of the basic requirements for a dance major, along with The Creative Process, a course which explores the fundamental process of making art through theatre, dance, music and visual arts projects. Classes in art and music, and related studies in design and production are also encouraged for the serious student of dance. Junior and Senior Independent Projects provide in-depth experiences in creative or written work.
