Most students at Middlebury College spend at least one semester off-campus, either abroad or elsewhere in the United States. Environmental Studies majors are no exception. Since 1995, more than 50 percent of ES majors have studied abroad during their junior years.
During this period, ES majors have studied in 35 different countries. The most popular countries for study abroad have included Australia, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, France, Nepal, New Zealand, Spain, and Tanzania. About 10 percent of ES majors have studied off-campus in the United States, at programs such as the Center for Northern Studies, Round River Conservation, Sierra Institute, SEA Semester, Washington Semester, and Woods Hole Marine Biological Lab.
