Aniruddha Mitra joined the economics department as visiting faculty in the fall of 2008. He completed his dissertation at the University of Illinois under the supervision of Salim Rashid. His dissertation provides a theoretical perspective on the problem of discrimination and policy responses designed to eliminate persistent disparities in group attainment that arise out of it. A parallel theme in his dissertation research relates to the economics of conflict.
In addition to the economics of discrimination and conflict, his research interests lie in Development Economics and Microeconomic Theory. Prior to attending graduate school in the United States, he obtained a masters degree in economics from Delhi University.
