In an effort to strengthen interdepartmental and interdisciplinary teaching projects in literature and culture and in order to establish a strong common framework for literature students at Middlebury College, the literature division created Intro. to World Literature (LITP 0101), the first of a series of several courses that interconnect the study of literature across campus. The staff for each semester's version of LITP 0101 is drawn from at least three different departments, generally but not necessarily from the Department of English and American Literatures, Program of American Studies, and the various language departments. The course may be counted toward requirements for the major in English and American literatures, literary studies, and some of the language departments. It is open to non majors as well.
In addition to the course descriptions, students with an interest in the general literature offerings available at the college are urged to consult the literary studies, English and American literatures listings as well as literature courses in the foreign language departments offered in English.
