Problem Contest - Problem of the Week – October 5, 2004

Socks in a Drawer.  Steve has a sock drawer with 2 red socks, 2 blue socks, and 2 green socks. He chooses two socks in the dark and is only certain that at least one is red. What is the probability that the other sock is also red?

Submit written solution with justification to John Emerson, Warner 312, before 3:00 on Tuesday, October 12.  Or leave them in the Warner mailroom.

Note:  Join us at the weekly seminars, usually on Tuesday at 3:00 for refreshments.
