There are many opportunities for students to become involved in activities beyond coursework. During summers, many faculty hire students to participate in their research projects. A wide range of activities takes place during the semester, including:
The Weekly Seminar
This is a remarkable opportunity to see flashes of brilliance from some of your own professors, as well as from many outside speakers. Attending the weekly seminar will make you acutely aware of the breadth of research going on in the mathematical sciences, and introduce you to topics not covered in our courses.
Projects
Some projects developed by faculty and students in the department.
Green Chicken Contest
Every fall we have an annual showdown with Williams College for the coveted Green Chicken trophy. Usually held on the weekend of the Williams/Middlebury football game, students participate in a two-hour problem solving fest - winner take all.
