MATHEMATICS STUDENT ASSEMBLY AND RECEPTION

All mathematics majors, minors, and potential future majors are invited to this gathering, which is both a student meeting and a department social event. The mathematics department will provide chips, cookies, and soft drinks. This gathering replaces the weekly department seminar talk.

(Courses in spring, new major track, faculty hiring, roles of Math SAC)
3:30 – Information Session about Mathematics -- the major, senior thesis, careers, graduate school. Conversation with department faculty and senior majors. This session will provide useful information and advice for students who are, or may choose to become, mathematics majors or minors.
Bring your questions! For example:
How might the new mathematical sciences track work for me?How will students be involved in faculty recruiting this year? And when?
What do mathematics majors DO after they graduate?
If I want to do graduate work, what should I take?
Do mathemtics majors go to medical/law/business schools?
3:50 – Election of 2004-05 Student Advisory Committee (SAC) – chaired by Amrita Sarkar '05.
(Interested majors can and should (!) nominate candidates, including themselves, by sending e-mail to Amrita at asarkar .
4:10 – More refreshments and informal conversations.
