Induction and Some of its Uses
David Dorman
Middlebury College
Mathematical induction is one of the essential tools for every mathematician. Often it's taught in high school or one can learn it from a number of different courses in college. Then examples of induction are given that involve mathematical identities. While these are important, students come away with the idea that this is the sole venue where induction is used. In this talk we will illustrate how induction is used in a variety of settings. The listener will come away from the talk with a fuller understanding and appreciation for induction.
