Yes. Information about auditions will come out at the beginning of each semester. On the
Orchestra web site. This aucition will also function as your audition for the Chamber Music Ensemble program.

Can a student receive credit for participating in Orchestra or a Choir?
A:
Yes, for 2 semesters of participation in The Orchestra or the Chamber Singers, one credit is given. A student can only do this once, and your must announce your intention at the beginning of the first semester for which you are seeking credit. This option is not available to music majors and joint majors, though, for majors, 3 semesters of participation in a departmetally-approved ensemble is required. It is a graduation requirement, but academic credit is not given.

How much do applied lessons cost?
A:
The cost is $295 for a series of 10 45-minute lessons fall and spring terms, or $118 for four lessons in winter term. There are several conditions under which the fee is waived or reduced:
a. Music majors pay nothing.
b. If you are taking the lessons to work toward a 500 or 704 project there is no charge for applied lessons.
c. There are certain performance courses which allow the fee to be waived.
d. If you take lessons on an instrument you are playing in the orchestra, you pay one-half for applied lessons.
e. If you sing in a Choir, voice lessons are half-price.
f. There is a small amount of scholarship money available for the lessons.

Do you need to send a tape when you apply to Middlebury hoping to major in Music?

It is not necessary, but if you would like to do so to augment your application, great. Please send the tape to the Admissions Department.
