About our directors
Jeff Buettner , Assistant Professor of Music, is Director of Choral Activities at Middlebury College beginning in Fall 2007. He has previously led choirs at Simpson College (Iowa), Hope College (Michigan), Earlham College (Indiana), and Michigan State University. He studied music at St. Olaf College, received his Masters in Music from The University of Cincinnatti Conservatory of Music, and his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Michigan State. His research has encompassed gypsy music of the Ukraine. In addition to his extensive conducting background, Jeff is a music arranger and singer, appearing with ensembles such as Cincinatti's premier a cappella ensemble VoiceBox.
Jeff Rehbach served as conductor of the Chamber Singers from April 2000 to May 2007. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in music from Cornell University, where he was an active singer and chamber musician, and served as assistant conductor of the Cornell Chorus and Sage Chapel Choir, and director of the Collegium Musicum. Jeff remains an active choral singer and conductor involved with many ensembles, including Early Music Vermont, the Vermont Millennium Music Festival, Amherst Early Music, the Vermont Symphony Orchestra Chorus and Chamber Chorus, and the Middlebury College-Community Chorus. Jeff also serves as Policy Advisor for Library and Information Services at Middlebury College, where he has been a member of the staff since 1981 when he came to the College as Music Librarian, and subsequently served as Systems Librarian, and from 1998 to 2001 as Director of Information Technology Services.
In 1999 John Milsom founded the Middlebury College Chamber Choir. Professor Milsom, well-known as a musicologist and writer, was music department chair and the Christian A. Johnson Professor of Music at Middlebury College at the time. John Milsom serves on the Editorial Board of the journal Early Music (Oxford University Press).
