The Sound Investment Jazz Ensemble is a collaboration between the Music Department and The Sound Investment, a student big-band organization that sustains a 75-year history of swingin’ music at Middlebury. The band plays the best of contemporary jazz arrangements and celebrates the great tunes of the swing and jazz repertoire as well. Original tunes and arrangements by members of the Middlebury community are also performed. The ensemble uses the traditional big band mix of saxes, trombones, trumpets, piano, guitar, bass and drums, supplemented on occasion by other instruments and vocalists. Membership in the ensemble is by audition and is open to both music majors and non-majors; experienced players are especially encouraged to apply.

The band rehearses on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 to 6:30, in CFA 221. Recordings of some of the tunes the band has worked on are available on the College’s website at http://segue.middlebury.edu/sites/jazz_workshop.
