Research Interests

My research interests center around the general theme of how family stress affects children's development, with a primary focus on children's emotional development. I am particularly interested in the relationship between children's emotional distress and the development of emotional and behavioral problems. The types of family stressors I have examined include exposure to marital conflict, parent-child negotiations, and children growing up in a household in which one or both parents are depressed. In addition to developing and utilizing multi-method and multi-informant assessment techniques, I am interested in developing intervention programs to reduce the risk of psychopathology in children.
