The Religion Department at Middlebury seeks to acquaint students with the world's major religious traditions, the varieties of religious experience, and with religious approaches to a wide range of topics and questions. Though emphasizing the study of individual religious traditions, holding that a solid understanding of one is crucial for developing appreciation of other traditions and of religion as a fundamental human experience, the Religion faculty also seeks to make students aware of comparative and interdisciplinary approaches to the study of religion.
