Ph. D. Candidate, Princeton University

Professor Stearns teaches courses on Islamic thought in the Medieval and Modern period. His research interests include the history of Muslim Spain and North Africa, Islamic Law and Theology, and Muslim and Christian perceptions of each other. His research is currently focused on the concept of contagion in Muslim and Christian thought from the Middle Ages to the present. Professor Stearns came to Middlebury College in September 2005.
