Partners in Education Mini-Grant Application

Mission Statement

Partners in Education (PIE) is a Middlebury College Teacher Education Program (MCTEP) and Addison Central Supervisory Union (ACSU) collaborative. Its primary mission is to help support a variety of professional development opportunities that are of mutual benefit to Middlebury College pre-service teachers and ACSU in-service teachers.

The ACSU pledges to provide the MCTEP with extended opportunities for on-site field placements in ACSU classrooms for students in teacher education method courses and for the clinical preparation of pre-service teachers during the professional semester.

The MCTEP pledges to provide the ACSU schools with extended in-service professional development opportunities and resources that utilize Middlebury College facilities and personnel.

The partnership remains flexible enough to accommodate additional needs as they emerge in new education contexts.

PIE Committee

PIE is administered by a ten-person committee composed of five Middlebury College faculty members and five ACSU administrators and teachers. The five Middlebury College committee members for 2006-07 include the three Teacher Education faculty (Claudia Cooper, Director of Teacher Education; Gregg Humphrey, Coordinator of Elementary Education; and Jonathan Miller-Lane, Coordinator of Secondary Education) and two other Middlebury College faculty members (Barbara Hofer, Associate Professor of Psychology, and Hector Vila, Assistant Professor of Writing). The five ACSU committee members include Jan Willey, Associate Superintendent of the ACSU, two ACSU building principals (one elementary and one secondary), and two ACSU teachers (one elementary and one secondary). Claudia Cooper and Jan Willey co-chair the Committee. The Committee meets four times a year. Subcommittees are assigned and meet as needed.

The charges of the Committee are to publicize the mission of PIE and to solicit possible professional development venues and projects from their constituencies. The Committee sets the process and application for PIE grants, and is charged with the assessment of the applications and allocation of all PIE funds.
