The Women's and Gender Studies Reading Group has been meeting for more than a decade to explore issues broadly related to the study of women and gender, across a wide array of disciplines. Some of the participants are faculty members who teach in the WAGS program; others teach related issues within non-affiliated courses or who have a strong interest in the topics addressed by the group. The reading group provides opportunities for exploring material with colleagues prior to assigning it to students, as well as the opportunity to consider more complex and provocative topics related to gender studies. The group typically begins the year with an open discussion of possible readings, and anyone interested in joining is encouraged to contribute suggestions. Some of the books we read last year included:

  • Feminism Without Borders,Chandra Mohanty
  • This Bridge We Call Home, Gloria Anzaldua
  • She's Not There: A Life in Two Genders, Jennifer Boylan
  • Harmful to Minors, Judith Levine
  • Manifesta: Young Women, Feminism, and the Future, Jennifer Baumgardner and Amy Richards
  •

We welcome new members! Just send an e-mail to Karin Hanta.
