__Attend the meeting for all sophomores interested in study abroad (Tuesday, September 16, 2008, Wright Theater, 4:30 OR 6:30 p.m.) and the Study Abroad Fair (Thursday, September 25, 2008, 12:00 - 4:00 p.m., McCardell Bidentennial Hall, Great Hall). Attend any regional and country-specific information meetings (see Events page for meeting information).
__Read and understand the Middlebury Study Abroad Guidelines
__Begin to research your study abroad options during fall semester of your sophomore year (or earlier).
__If you are interested in studying abroad on a non-Middlebury program, meet with Stacey Thebodo, in International Programs and Off-Campus Study to talk about study abroad options, how to find a program or university abroad, Middlebury procedures and guidelines, the Middlebury approval process, and any other study abroad questions or concerns you may have. If you are interested in a Middlebury School Abroad in Spain or Latin America, you should meet with Nicole Chance. If you are interested in a Middlebury School Abroad in China, the Middle East, or Russia, you should meet with Bill Mayers. If you are interested in a Middlebury School Abroad in France, Italy, or Germany, you should meet with Lindsay Dobucki.
__Meet with your academic advisor to discuss study abroad, making sure you have a plan to finish your major and fulfill other academic requirements. Discuss what major and other requirements you can and cannot fulfill abroad.
__If you are on financial aid, be sure to meet with the Financial Aid Office and check out their web site.
__Apply to programs and universities abroad before the appropriate deadlines.
__Complete and return a Study Abroad Application (available from International Programs and Off-Campus Study). This is due to your academic adviser by January 9 of your sophomore year and by February 1 to International Programs and Off-Campus Study.
__If you are studying on a non-Middlebury program, once you are approved by the Programs Abroad Committee, finalize plans with the program or university abroad you plan to attend. Complete necessary housing arrangements and/or other paperwork with the program or university abroad. Acquire a passport and necessary students visas.
__Complete and return the release statement form and any other pre-departure forms to International Programs and Off-Campus Study.
__Read the Pre-Departure Handbook (non-Middlebury programs), pre-departure web site, and complete the online pre-departure orientation.
__Attend the mandatory study abroad pre-departure meeting, which will be held in April for students going abroad fall or full year, and November or December for students going abroad in the spring (check with International Programs and Off-Campus Study for more information and see our Events page).
__If at any time you have questions about study abroad, or if your study abroad plans change from your original approval, contact Stacey Thebodo (non-Middlebury programs), Nicole Chance (Middlebury Schools Abroad: Latin America and Spain), or Bill Mayers (Middlebury Schools Abroad: China, Russia and the Middle East), or Lindsay Dobucki (Middlebury Schools Abroad: France, Germany, and Italy) in International Programs and Off-Campus Study.
__Once abroad, please send your address to International Programs and Off-Campus Study.
__After you return to Middlebury (after study abroad), attend the returnee gathering, arrange for your credit to transfer, and read our Re-entry web page.
