The communications office is responsible for all of the printed and electronic publications that the College uses to communicate with external constituencies, and is the home of public affairs, the key point of contact between the College and the news media.

Communications handles the Middlebury web site, Middlebury Magazine, the College's viewbook and other admissions materials, alumni and fund-raising communications, the annual president's report, the Middlebury engagement calendar, and a host of other publications. The public affairs office, in addition to working with print, broadcast, and online media, acts as a liaison between the College and the local community and state government, and monitors higher education issues at the state and national levels. The office also coordinates photography and publicizes events, programs, and selected students, faculty, and staff.

The communications office's mission is to:
  • Promote general awareness and appreciation of the College.
  • Encourage the most able students to attend  Middlebury.
  • Foster a sense of pride and community among all of the College's constituencies.
  • Encourage alumni to remain engaged in the life and work of the College.

Communications and public affairs are staffed by an experienced team of professionals—editors, public relations specialists, writers, designers, and more—dedicated to finding the most effective and engaging ways to present information about the College to a wide range of audiences. The office also includes student interns, who assist with the web site, publications, and the public affairs office.
