  Time Magazine has selected Middlebury College President Ronald D. Liebowitz as one of its "10 Best College Presidents," citing his work on sustainability issues, and in particular his advocacy of the student-led initiative to make the campus carbon neutral by 2016.

• Women's soccer and field hockey teams play in NCAA regionals this weekend

  The Middlebury women's soccer team hosts an NCAA regional this weekend, November 14 and 15. The Panthers take on Husson College at 11 a.m. on November 14, and on November 15 at 1 p.m. the winner of that game takes on the winner of the other semifinal, between Wheaton and Richard Stockton.
  
  Also in NCAA regional play this weeked is the field hockey team, which takes on NESCAC rival Trinity on November 14 at Ursinus, the host team, which meets Lynchburg in the other semifinal. The championship game is November 15 at 1 p.m.

  They’re excited because it’s flag football Monday, and they’re about to meet up with older pals from the Middlebury College football team — seven or eight players who come each week during the fall for coaching and mentorship.

  Middlebury College is one of 26 institutions in the United States and Canada to be selected as an “Overall College Sustainability Leader” in the 2010 edition of the College Sustainability Report Card.
  
  Now in its fourth year, the College Sustainability Report Card seeks to evaluate the sustainability of campus operations and endowment investments.

  New England Review, a national literary quarterly published by Middlebury College, has released its latest issue (Vol. 30, No. 3), which features an in-depth piece honoring the work of editor and critic Ted Solotaroff, including an excerpt from his unpublished literary memoir and testimonials from 19 authors.   Middlebury College senior Sierra Crane-Murdoch of Cropseyville, N.Y., is one of six recipients of the 2009 Brower Youth Award. Presented by Earth Island Institute, the Brower Youth Awards are one of North America’s leading prizes for young environmental leaders.
  
  According to the Earth Island Institute, Crane-Murdoch was chosen for her work to build a unified movement of grassroots activists battling coal.

  Renaissance man: Poet and businessman Don Axinn was also an avid flier

  Donald Everett Axinn, a member of the Middlebury College Class of 1951 and namesake of the Donald E. Axinn ’51 Litt. D. ’89 Center for Literary and Cultural Studies at Starr Library, died Tuesday, October 13. He was 80.
   
  An author, poet and avid aviator, Axinn was the founder and chairman of Donald E. Axinn Companies, an investment firm and developer of office and industrial parks throughout the New York metropolitan area.
