Wouldn't it be cool if we could see where all our food came from?
That's what Christopher Howell '04 thought a few years ago when he conceived a geography project that would map where Middlebury's dining services acquired food for such College staples as the annual Thanksgiving dinner, chicken parm, and a farm breakfast. Howell graduated before the project was completed, but Kayla Race '08 picked up where he left off, and the result is a feast for the eyes.

ConnectEd
A heavyweight lineup of world affairs experts will headline an innovative conference on global education to be convened next month in Monterey, California.
Hosted by Middlebury and its affiliate, the Monterey Institute of International Studies, the ConnectEd Conference will focus on changes in education brought about by globalization and technology. Among the scheduled speakers: Scott McNealy, the chairman of Sun Microsystems; Jorge Castañeda, Mexico's former secretary of foreign affairs; and Robert Kaplan, a writer and editor at The Atlantic.

Bridge Nears
The town of Middlebury took a giant step toward obtaining a second in-town bridge, thanks to a generous offer from the College.

Tethering
Middlebury psychology professor Barbara Hofer continues to receive a lot of attention for her groundbreaking study of parental communication with children. Vermont Public Radio was the latest outlet to delve into the issue.

Difference Maker
The College was recently cited as one of 71 colleges and universities that is "making a difference" in the world. The accolade comes from an annual guide published by SageWorks Press of Fairfax, California.

Faster than a Speeding Bullet
NASA recently clocked a star moving at an astounding three million miles per hour. And Middlebury's Frank Winkler was part of the team that discovered and tracked the cosmic cannonball.

Technological Kudos
Segue, Middlebury's interactive-learning management system, was recently cited by the Mellon Foundation as an example of "leadership in the collaborative development of open-source software tools with application to scholarship in the arts and humanities."

LS Vet Honored
A veteran of Middlebury's Language Schools was recently honored by the German government for his work advancing German culture and language beyond the borders of Germany for the past 40 years.

A Matter of Division

Hall of Fame
Tom Jacobs '51, the legendary Panther ski racer, was recently inducted into the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame.

Game Time
For the first time in College history, the men's soccer team captured the NCAA national title.
The Panthers knocked off Trinity College (Texas), 1-0, in the title match, handing Trinity its first loss of the year and extending the Panthers consecutive scoreless streak to 623 minutes.
