Sara Thurber Marshall grew up in Middlebury where her father, Harris Thurber, was a professor of political science, and her mother, Betty Thurber, taught in the education department. Sara has not worked at Middlebury since her days in the dining service at Bread Loaf in high school and college. But she’s happy to be back as the alumni editor at Middlebury Magazine, writing and editing the class notes and working with alumni who serve as class secretaries.
Sara received her B.A. in English from Bucknell University and an M.ed. from Lesley College. Her first career was as a teacher at the Lower School of Buckingham Browne & Nichols in Cambridge, Mass. Her second career began when she had twin boys and then a third boy three years later. Her third career has been an attempt to write novels for children (a career in progress), which also led to a stint teaching adult education classes on how to write for children. Her fourth career involved setting up her own business in copyediting and proofreading which led to her most recent career at Middlebury Magazine.
