Tim Etchells '74 came to Middlebury in December 2003 and is now director of interactive communications. Tim is in his third tour of duty at Midd: earlier in his career, he served two four-year stints as editor of the Middlebury College Magazine, from 1982-86 and from 1989-93.

Before returning to the College in 2003, he had most recently been editor-in-chief of Ski Racing, a magazine based in Boulder, Colorado, covering ski and snowboard competition worldwide. He had previously worked as a senior editor at Snow Country and its successor publication, Mountain Sports & Living, national magazines based in New York City that covered recreation and life in general in mountain towns across the country.

Tim's career in journalism began with reporting and editing jobs at small daily papers in New Hampshire, including the Concord Monitor. His freelance work, mostly on sports and travel, has appeared in magazines such as Outside, Ski, Powder, Sailing World, and Sail.

Tim and his wife Betsy Mitchell Etchells '75 (executive assistant to the president at the College) have lived in Middlebury for more than 25 years and have two grown children.
