The Career Services Office offers students a chance to learn interviewing skills in a one-on-one practice interview setting. Practice interviews are offered by appointment Tuesdays through Fridays. If you anticipate an upcoming interview with an employer, take advantage of this excellent opportunity to practice first with a counselor!

CSO also sponsors several opportunities to practice interview skills with alumni: This Fall, there will be a Financial Services Practice Interviewing Day on Oct. 6, and a General Practice Interview Day with the Alumni Board on Oct 28th. Space is limited, so be sure to sign up in advance.

Before the interview:

Call CSO to schedule an appointment at least one week before your "real" interview. Be sure to identify the employer and position for which you're applying.

Drop off a copy of your resume at CSO in advance of your appointment.

Learn all about interviewing etiquette at the Interviewing Preparation page. Visit this page for the "dos and don'ts" of interviewing, a list of questions you might be asked in the interview, and some suggestions for questions you can ask of your interviewer.

Do your homework! Read about the organization with whom you'll be interviewing by visiting MoJo's Resource Center, perusing the organization's web page, and searching for articles in major publications such as the New York Times or Business Week magazine.

Secure appropriate interviewing attire. Check out the "Dress for Success" page for a list of acceptable interview dress for both men and women, and go to this page to see where you might be able to purchase interviewing clothes and shoes in Vermont.

The day of the interview:

Arrive at CSO ten minutes before the scheduled start time of your interview. Check in at CSO's front desk, hang up your coat, and wait in the CSO resource area. Bring an extra copy of your resume with you.

Cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance of the appointment.

After the interview:

Write a thank-you note to the counselor who interviewed you within 24 hours. Click here to see our guidelines.

Reflect on the feedback given to you by the counselor. Practice answering interview questions with a roommate or friend. Come back to CSO for a second round practice interview.
