    The Abroad View Foundation provides college students and recent graduates with opportunities for discourse and initiatives that encourage intercultural and global citizenship development.  In addition to the website hosted and developed at Middlebury College, the Foundation produces the Abroad View magazine.
  • Article: How Young Professionals Find International Work

  • Usually requires a college degree and U.S. certification
  • Start applying in November for the following year
  • Major job fairs are in February at various locations around the country

  • TESOL, Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages A very useful site maintained by TESOL, a professional association of English-language teachers. Includes career guidance, certification information, and the TESOL JobFinder.
  • The International Educator
    A quarterly publication that lists jobs at international schools. Contact CSO for username and password.
  • Search Associates
    An educational placement firm specializing in the placement of teachers, administrators and interns with international schools throughout the world.
  • United States Department of State, Office of Overseas Schools
    Lists 180 American sponsored schools located in 133 countries. These schools are assisted by the U.S. State Department but are independent and non-governmental.
  • Department of Defense Dependent Overseas Schools
    There are 163 schools in 15 different countries. You are employed by the U.S. government to teach children of military personnel.
  • Council on International Educational Exchange
    Has programs for both U.S. and non-U.S. citizens in a variety of countries. CIEE provides a work permit, orientation upon arrival, and help finding a job and housing. Includes France, Ireland, Britain, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, Australia and Costa Rica.
  • Friends of World Teaching
    An international placement agency.
  • Park English Recruitment Agency, Inc. 
    ESL jobs in Korea.
  • World Teach
    Teach English, math or science or coach sports in Ecuador, Costa Rica, Poland, Thailand, Namibia or South Africa. Programs usually run one year.
  • United Nations
    Teaching opportunities in agencies such as UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund), WHO (World Health Organization), and UNDP (United Nations Development Program)
  • United Board of Global Ministries
    Lists many international schools founded by missionary organizations. Religious curricula will vary but schools are often in remote areas

  • Short-Term Work Abroad - Tips/Suggestions

  • First, contact the embassy or consulate and the tourist office of the countries in which you want to work. Consult their telephone directories and yellow pages for addresses of companies in your field.
  • Search the web for job vacancies in your field. Most major city newspapers are online.

  • British Universities of North America Club (BUNAC)
    A non-profit organization that arranges exchange programs for British and American students.
  • Association for International Practical Training
    Four internship programs that place students in a wide variety of countries. Hospitality and tourism exchanges, International association for the exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE), Student exchanges, and Career Development Exchanges.
  • Interexchange
    Has a variety of programs (summer and year-long) in the Czech Republic, Finland , Germany, Hungary , Austria, France, Great Britain, Holland, Italy, Ireland, Norway, and Switzerland, as well as au pair programs. Apply 3-4 months ahead.
  • YMCA International Camp Counselor program
    Positions available in 24 countries.
