What is an externship?

Sophomore year is a great time to begin the career exploration process. Externships are two-day shadowing experiences that give Middlebury College sophomores exposure to a particular career field and valuable contact with Middlebury alums. Externships are typically offered over October Break and Spring Break, but some sponsors may offer them at different times of year depending on the cycles of their profession. Doing an externship helps sophomores focus plans for longer internships over the summer and Winter Term.

Fall Break 2008 Externships will take place Monday-Tuesday, October 13-14, 2008.

How to Apply
1. Review the opportunities listed below.  Don't forget to recheck, as new externships will be posted as they come in.

2. Complete the online application.  Submit your top three choices and a statement of interest.  The statement must answer: why you want to do the externship; what your learning objectives are for the externship; how the externship is connected to your career exploration goals.

3. Sit back and wait.  Students will be selected for the externships by a lottery.

4. If selected, submit a copy of your resume, along with an updated statement of interest to CSO.  These will be forwarded to your externship sponsor.

Remember:
By placing your name in the lottery, you commit to participating in the externship if you are chosen.
