Marianna (Yonna) McShane

Yonna McShane earned her BA in Psychology and M.Ed. in Counseling from the University of Vermont. She joined the staff at Middlebury College in 1982 as the Assistant Director of the Center for Counseling and Human Relations . In 1990 she founded the Office of Health and Wellness Education and served as the Director until 2003. In 2003 Yonna was appointed the Director of Learning Resources. In this current position she works closely with students, faculty, and Deans to enhance the scholastic standing and academic excellence of Middlebury students. With the opening of the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Research, she will be working closely with the Director, Kathy Skubikowski and other members of the Centers' team of professionals.
In her continued role as Instructor in the Department of Psychology , Yonna will continue to teach and engage in research focused on alcohol use and abuse in American culture and in the college population. Yonna has received numerous awards for her excellence in and dedication to the field of Higher Education. These awards include the Elizabeth Candon Distinguished Service Award from the Vermont Chapter of the American Council on Education. Yonna is a sought after public speaker and consultant and has lectured at State, Regional and International conferences.
