MIDDLEBURY COLLEGE PROSPECTIVE DINING EVENTS TEAM MEMBER
We are pleased you have indicated an interest in the Dining Event team. The team is a group of student and non-student employees who, because of their experience, ability and professionalism, have been selected to work at catered functions. The team serves a wide variety of dinners and receptions for as many as 2000 people to as few as six, everything from informal picnics to five course meals. Dining Events is a full-service operation, providing all necessary items for the function, from china to linen and flowers.
One of the advantages to working on the team is the flexible schedule. We cannot guarantee any set number of hours, but you are free to choose the events you work. However, you should be aware that most functions occur on the weekends and evenings. Although you are not always required to work weekends, if after a period of time you have not signed up to work, your name may be dropped from the mailing list. Preference will be given to those who have regularly agreed to work.
Experience is desirable but certainly not necessary. You will train while working alongside an experienced team member . There will be wait staff and bartending training sessions throughout the school year. All you need to bring with you is a strong desire to perform well, a positive attitude and the ability to work compatibly with others.
Your responsibilities as a member of the team will include: setting tables, serving meals and beverages, clearing tables and other miscellaneous tasks. You will be expected to report to work on time and in the proper uniform as follows:
Long or short sleeve white shirt with a collar, waist length oxford style, tucked in, no designs or pictures. Black cloth pants, skirts or shorts hemmed to the knee or below. Jeans, sweat pants, leggings or corduroy pants will not be acceptable. Hair longer than chin length must be put up or tied back. Coordinating socks or nylons only, leave the fun socks for home. Black or dark brown shoes, no canvas or open toes. All male team members must be clean shaven.
Periodically, you will receive in the mail a "dining events needs list" which contains all the upcoming events, dates, times and what type of staff is required. Check which events fit your schedule and call the office and more information and availability will be provided. It is your responsibility to arrive on time, introduce yourself if you are new and locate the manager. It is extremely important once you make a commitment, that you do appear to work the function. If for any reason you cannot be there, it is your responsibility to find an equally experienced substitute. Names and phone numbers of the team are available in the dining events office at Freeman International Center ext. 5347 or 5350.
If you are a Middlebury College student, it is your responsibility to complete the necessary paperwork at Student Employment before receiving your first pay check.
If you are not a college student, it will be necessary to complete paperwork at Human Resources and enter your time every week by Tuesday, 5:00 p.m., in the dining events office. Please indicate if you worked as wait staff or bartender. Pay checks for non student personnel may be picked up in the Dining Events office, at FIC, on Thursdays, after 4:30 p.m. or Fridays, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Direct deposit is available. Call the dining events office, for details.
