The Commons at Middlebury

Middlebury's five residential Commons form the backbone of student life at the College. Approximately 400 students, representing all four classes, live in each Commons. Every Commons is led by a "team"- including a Faculty Head, a Dean, a Commons Coordinator and two Commons Residential Advisers - that advise and support student residents and guide the cultural and intellectual life of the community.

The Five Commons are:

- Atwater

-
Brainerd

-
Cook

-
Ross

-
Wonnacott

Each Commons selects one or more Commons Environmental Liaisons who work directly with the Campus Sustainability Coordinator's office to increase environmental awareness within the residential Commons.  In 2002-03, the Commons Environmental Liaisons coordinated a successful electricity reduction contest amongst first year residence halls, purchased compact fluorescent light bulbs for common areas and student rooms, and sponsored the showing of environmentally-related films.
