Start an environmental legacy (or continue one)

The Environmental Council manages an innovative grant program designed to inspire environmental leadership across the campus through sustainability initiatives. Funded in its pilot year from the Environment Council's own budget, President McCardell's intrigue with the program's potential resulted in generous support for the grant program for the next three years.  Nearly 40 grants have been awarded utilizing more than $65,000 of funding.

Faculty, staff and students have received funding – ranging from $50 to $10,000 – to establish a community bike program, study the wind potential at the Snow Bowl, explore the development of an organic garden, assess the potential support for hybrid vehicles in the college fleet, inventory trees on campus, construct a greenhouse and access the heat from nearby compost windrows to heat greenhouse soil, and create biodiesel fuel from waste vegetable oil generated by dining services.

Thanks to President Ron Liebowitz the Environmental Council continues to be able to provide grants to Middlebury College students, staff and faculty.
