  1. No changes requested for the minutes of 11/5/02.
  2. Updates

Environmental Fair:  Suzanne, Mikey and Connie are organizing the Environmental Fair at Ross Dining Commons for Thursday, Nov. 21st.  About 18 organizations, a combination of campus and regional entities plan to participate.  Mikey is working on an article for the Campus newspaper, table tents are out and the EC requested that an e-mail be sent to the entire campus.  Candlelight was not arranged with Dining Services.  Permission was received to park a hybrid vehicle on the courtyard approach to Ross Dining Commons.

Environmental Grants:  Thirteen grant awards have been offered and all applicants received a personal letter describing the decision-making process.  Unsuccessful applicants were provided with feedback to assist them in seeking support through other avenues.  President McCardell recognizes the opportunities these grants provide and Connie will prepare materials from past and current awards for Nan to share with him.

Carbon Reduction Initiative:  Letters requesting the appointment of members to the Working Group were sent by Community Council to Faculty Council, Staff Council and SGA.  Connie will follow up with each requesting that members be appointed by December 6th.  Nan reported that Bob Huth would co-chair the CRI if meetings were to be held on a monthly basis; if bi-weekly, Tom Corbin would be the co-chair.  While the Environmental Council is very interested in having Bob co-chair this group, general consensus was that the group would need to meet more than once a month.

Electricity Contest:  Connie reported for Ben Wessler that the electricity contest between first year residence halls was going well and that at least one building (Battell) had achieved a 5% electricity use reduction from the first to the second week.

  1. Committees

In addition to the Grants Committee, three other committees were established:  Land Use, Education, and Purchasing/Consumption.  A small group will also work with Gabe Epperson on Transit issues through the end of January.  Each group met briefly to determine when they would meet during the next week.  Some EC members may wish to be active on more than one committee so the times and places are as follows:

Land Use -  Monday, November 25 at 4:30 pm in Andi Lloyd's lab in BiHall

Purchasing/Consumption:  Tuesday, November 26 from 12:15ish-1:15 at 23 Adirondack View

Education – Tuesday, December 3 from 12:30-1:30 in FIC  CK1
