Environmental Council Meeting

October 8, 2002

1. Review of Minutes of September 24, 2002 

No changes requested.

 

2. Environmental Grants

Members reviewed Environmental Grants application process and suggested several changes to application.  Connie will revise the materials and strive to get the applications out on Wednesday.  A display ad will be purchased in The Campus newspaper, table tent cards will focus on the Env. Grants, an article will be included in MiddPoints for faculty/staff, announcements will be made at the Colloquiums, and an all campus e-mail will be sent. Grant applications will be available from the web, and applicants may submit their proposals electronically.  Collaborative proposals stressed.

Grants review meeting will be on Friday, November 1 beginning at 2:30

 

3.  Environmental Council Priorities for '02-'03

J.S. raised concerns about fish sources in the dining halls (examples farm salmon and fish from endangered fisheries).  There is a national initiative of chefs supporting sustainable fisheries that Middlebury might explore.

 

Lighting on Campus was raised, in part EC members were seeking follow up on consultant Nancy Clanton's visit.  Connie will contact Frank Winkler requesting copies of Nancy's report for the EC.

Throughout the discussion there was interest in having "personal responsibility" an emphasis.  Members offered to submit short descriptions to Connie of possible committee work in each category for additional discussion at the October 22 EC meeting.

1.Carbon Reduction Initiative presentation by subcommittee

2.Priorities discussion
