- Carbon Reduction Initiative
Members of the Carbon Neutral subcommittee presented a draft proposal seeking the endorsement from the Environmental Council requesting the Community Council to establish a Carbon Reduction Initiative working group. (See attached proposal). The main discussion focused on how best to appoint student members to the Working Group to ensure maximum student input and feedback to the Commons. It was decided that Connie and Katy would contact the Commons Deans for their input on how best to appoint students. Members also requested that the "XXX" be replaced with "Senior Administrator" and that a bullet be added specifying that the Working Group would report back to the Environmental Council and Community Council at the end of the academic year. With these amendments, Doug motioned and Andi seconded to accept the proposal as written. The vote carried unanimously.
- Transportation/Pedestrian Campus
Gabe Epperson '02.5 provided a presentation of his vision for balanced transportation planning at Middlebury based on work he had done as part of an ES 401 Senior Seminar project followed by a summer internship. Gabe will be continuing this work during the semester, focusing on conducting a survey of commuting habits and interests of college employees. The full class report "Redefining the Pedestrian Campus" is no longer available.
The Council meeting was running late so additional discussion of this information will take place at a future EC meeting.
