Services beyond "routine and customary" building maintenance may be categorized as Maintenance and Operational Projects.

Operational Projects are defined as :

  • Cost greater than $2500
  • Maintenance: Repair, refresh existing facilities
Furnishings and fixed equipment, items integral to the building
IE:  fume hoods, compressors, air handling units.
(Movable equipment such as instruments and computers are ordered through the Dean of Faculty's office, LIS or the Equipment Committee.)
  • Renovations or physical change of existing facilities
  • Replacement of existing fixed equipment and furnishings
  • New facilities, fixed equipment and furnishings to respond to program change

Review of Maintenance and Operational Project requests occurs on an annual basis. Facilities Services contacts budget administrators, department coordinators, and department chairs in September to solicit input in this process. They are provided with a list of projects that were denied for the previous fiscal year, to be reviewed for current relevance and possible resubmission. This is also an opportunity to submit proposals for new operational requests.

Project requests are returned to the Facilities Services office in early October, reviewed by the director, and then submitted to senior administration for review and approval. Priorities outlined by the requesting departments are considered in deciding how best to allocate available funds.
