| Nicholas Garza '11 |
Wednesday, May 28, 2008
Today the Middlebury Police Department announced that it had received confirmation from the Office of the Medical Examiner in Burlington that the body the police recovered yesterday has been positively identified as Nicholas Garza ’11.
Nothing is harder for a college community than the loss of one of its own students.
Although our loss is terrible, it cannot compare to the pain that Nick’s mother Natalie and his family are experiencing now. Our deepest sympathies remain with them.
Nick came to Middlebury from Albuquerque, New Mexico, an alumnus of the Albuquerque Academy. He brought with him a passion for politics, debate, poetry, literature, hockey, and music; shortly after arriving on campus, Nick introduced and hosted his own rock show (“W.R.M. Sweet”) on WRMC, the College’s radio station. In his short time at the College he made numerous friends, and was known and liked by many.
A gathering in remembrance of Nick will take place on campus in the fall. Details to follow.
If you would like to write to Natalie and the Garza family, you can reach them at:

Again, I want to thank the search crews and the police, particularly Middlebury Police Chief Tom Hanley, for all their work. I am extremely grateful to them for their dedication and all their efforts.
