UPDATE, FEBRUARY 15, 4:30 P.M.
Dear Middlebury Parents,
 |
| Nicholas Garza |
As you may already know, a Middlebury student, Nicholas Garza '11, is missing. I write now to let you know that the College and local authorities are doing everything possible to locate him. I have met on campus with Nick's mother and family members, and they are staying at the College's guest house while the investigation continues.
We are reporting only the facts as we know them from our Department of Public Safety, the Middlebury Police Department, and the Vermont State Police. A missing person investigation is ongoing, and a Search and Rescue team has been deployed to campus. This recovery effort has proven challenging due to recent storms and snowfall in the area, but the team will resume their efforts this weekend.
If you wish to stay abreast of developments in the investigation, please check the http://www.middlebury.edu Web site, which we will update whenever new information becomes available.
At times like this, we all have good reason to be concerned about the well being of our students. I want to assure you that everyone working in student life--Commons deans, faculty heads, residential life staff, the chaplain's office, and the Center for Counseling and Human Relations--is on hand to support your sons and daughters during this difficult time.
I will write again with more details when this incident is resolved. In the meantime, I hope and pray, as we all do, for Nick Garza's safe return to campus.
Sincerely,
Ron Liebowitz
President
