An update on the search for Nicholas Garza from Dean of the College Tiim Spears

To the Middlebury community:

The search for Nick Garza ’11 continues this week, with law enforcement agencies focusing increased attention on the areas surrounding Otter Creek. Last Friday, the Middlebury Police Department (MPD), assisted by several rescue squads from across the state, conducted an intensive search of the section of the creek behind Middlebury Union High School. Photographs taken during an aerial survey organized last week by the Down East Emergency Medical Institute prompted that search. Although the search was unsuccessful, MPD and the Vermont State Police intend to canvass the creek with greater intensity as water levels subside.

The ground search for Nick also continues. This Saturday, April 26, a volunteer search, organized by Natalie Garza, Nick’s mother, will cover the Trail Around Middlebury and other areas peripheral to the campus. Members of the community are welcome to participate in this search; please consult the Nicholas Garza Web site for details.

As this search approaches its fourth month, we continue to keep Nick, his family, and friends in our thoughts.
