GRANTS at MIDDLEBURY COLLEGE

Grants for institutional projects at Middlebury College are the responsibility of the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations, which is part of the College Advancement division.   Faculty grants are the responsibility of the Dean for Faculty Development and Research, under the oversight of the Sponsored Research Office which is staffed by the Coordinator of Sponsored Research and Science Grants & Writing Facilitator. The Controller’s Office is responsible for the overall financial administration of all grants to the College and will follow standard accounting practices and strictly adhere to all College policies and federal regulations.

Services Provided:
Grants are either Research Grants - support for a faculty or staff member for an individual research or professional development project, or Institutional Grants - support for projects relating to academic program, facilities, student life or other institutional needs.  The offices of Corporate & Foundation Releations and Sponsored Research are a resource for faculty and staff, providing information and assistance in the grant seeking process. These offices are also responsible for recording all grant activity, ensuring compliance with College and federal regulations for all sponsored programs, and overseeing the reporting responsibilities on institutional grants.

    Faculty and staff may register to receive individual INFO (based on funding interests). Funding Interest Groups: Creative Arts, Environmental Studies, Humanities, International Studies, Research Abroad, Science & Math, Social Sciences plus various groups for faculty scheduled for leave in the next year or two.   • Publicity:    Faculty grants are announced in MiddPoints. Also,an annual report of faculty grants is available from Grants Office.
  • Budget and Grant Preparation
    Staff provide individual assistance with budgets. Grant-writing information and "Tips & Advice" are available through the Grants  web page. Staff will review grant proposals. The Sponsored Research Office offers various grant workshops throughout the year.
  • Funding Searches
    Staff will assist faculty in identifying potential sources of support for faculty research or institutional projects.

  • Mission of the Sponsored Research Office :

    The mission of the Sponsored Research Office is to ensure that the College and its faculty are positioned to submit grant proposals to the federal government and other sponsors. The SRO supports an engaged and active faculty by providing advice and assistance at all stages of grant-seeking and grant administration. The highest priorities for the SRO are responding to faculty working on grant proposals with impending deadlines and dealing with time-sensitive issues related to grant administration. The SRO also oversees institutional endorsement procedures and monitors College compliance with sponsor requirements.


    Mission of the Office of Corporate & Foundation Relations: 
                   
    The mission of the Office of Corporate & Foundation Relations is to support College initiatives through the identification, research, cultivation, and solicitation of corporations, foundations and federal agencies. First priority for institutional programs is to obtain the largest amount of support for the least restrictive purposes in order to build endowment, and support budgeted programs. Second priority is to address approved new projects that would not be undertaken without grant funds.
